• The charity Sustainable Aid Supporting Haiti (SASH) was set up in Scarborough by a group of volunteers in response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake
  • We have involved young people in schools, youth projects and universities to raise money.
  • All our staff are unpaid volunteers
  • Because our volunteers are funding the running of SASH it is important to keep our costs low.
  • All the money raised in donations goes to the people of Haiti to provide food shelter medical supplies and resources for them to use.
  • We use Charity Choice as our gift aid facilitator because they do not charge any commission so all money goes directly for aid. If you are a tax payer we receive 120% of your donated money, if you are a non tax payer we receive 100% of your donated money.
  • From initial investigations in Haiti we have identified the following needs in rural communities where hardly any aid has reached - tarpaulins for shelter, clearing of rubble, food especially protien and rice, accessing water and medical aid.
  • The next stage will be to help in rebuilding projects of homes, schools, and work environments.
  • Finally we would help the local people to set up and run a small business
  • Additional Funding

Between May 2010 and May 2011, SASH was encouraged by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to apply for a grant which would enable us to re settle large numbers of people in more permanent living conditions. We are delighted to have been given a considerable amount of money by the IOM to use for this project which will pay for transport, administration in Haiti, renting a building, renting large pieces of equipment, and employing Haitians to work on the projects. To date these costs have been paid for by William and Melanie’s personal money and has run into several thousands of pounds. This IOM money cannot be used for buying equipment for people

SASH accepted a Grant from UNICEF for a pilot project in June 2011. The project will map all the activities of all the agencies working in the communes of Gressier, Leogane, Grand Goave and Petit Goave. This will help improve project coordination and strengthen links between humanitarian actors and the Local and National Government of Haiti.

SASH will continue to fundraise for money which will be used solely for the Haitian people most in need, for tarpaulins for shelter, tools to clear rubble, clean water and equipment for schools.
